As a multi-instrumentalist, (read "mental"), Andy may be playing Irish & Scottish traditional music on guitar one day, backing up an artist on kit drum the next or performing 19th century military rope tension drumming at any given time. But, with all that, Andy still has a few axes to grind as a singer/songwriter:http://www.musicdealers.com/artist/andyredmond/performances

(the official) Music Bio

Andy began drum lessons at the age of twelve, receiving instruction in the highland drum method pioneered by Alex Duthart. He went on to enjoy competitive success in corps and individual drumming, later becoming an instructor for many Eastern U.S. pipe bands. After majoring in music and theater in college, Andy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and successfully auditioned for bandsman (percussion). Unfortunately, a medical condition prevented him from serving. Andy then performed with rock & pop groups throughout the U.S. until a lifelong fascination with military “field music” led him to the study of 18th & 19th century American rudimental styles. Andy is the co-founder of the Mifflin Guard Field Music, a founder alumnus of The 28th PA Regimental Brass Band (Philadelphia Brigade Band), a member of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the Company of Fifers & Drummers and the US Association of Rudimental Drummers. He was music consultant, (audio books), for historical author Shelby Foote and currently performer/producer with Na’Bodach, an internationally recognized Celtic music group.

Recordings and live shows have featured Andy performing on kit drum, rope tension & highland marching drums, bodhran and various ethnic percussion, acoustic and electric 6 & 12 string guitars, banjitar, blues harp, lead & harmony vocals.

Andy Redman...rock drummer

A "back in the day" ad...Andy was in a great band, Modern Cities, and had the opportunity to do this spread for Circus Magazine. Tama gave him a full drum kit and placed him on their endorsee list for a time. Not bad for an unknown kid from Philly! PS - He went by the name Andy Redman for a few years...mostly because Redmond was constantly being mis-spelled! Below is the video of Modern Cities "Worlds Away" Very '80's...1985 to be exact!

A partial list of bands and individuals Andy has worked with as a kit drummer include: The Ardmore Celidh Band, Insect Fear, Jumpin' Jupiter, Daedalus, Dave Humphreys, The Suze Cozmo Band, Modern Cities, The Rao Brothers, Carlos & Johnny, (AKA) The Men, David Scott Smith, Jerico of the Angels and Soul House.

Although, much discography for the above is out of print, there might be a CD, Cassette or an LP (remember them?) floating around that has Andy performing on the kit. He would love to know! Send him an email: andy.redmond@att.net

The 28th PA Regimental Brass Band

As a co-founder of the 28th PA Regimental Brass Band, Andy was commisioned percussionist and drum major. This recreation of a Civil War era "saxhorn" band became active in the living history community and, besides the scores of parades, balls and concerts, performed annually at the Blue & Gray Ball in Gettysburg during many Rememberance Day Weekends. After leaving the band in 2004, the membership re-structured, naming itself The Philadelphia Brigade Band. In 2011, some members of the original band re-formed and now, The 28th PA Regimental lives on with Andy re-enlisting...drumming, of course!

Field Music

(from a photo taken in 1993 Andy is second from right)

As a co-founder of the Mifflin Guard Field Music, Andy has had the honor of teaching and coaching dozens of young men in the art of rope tension drumming. Portraying US Army soldiers of the Civil War, they performed the calls, signals, camp duty and fife & drum music that was essential from the days before the American Revolution to the early part of the 20th Century. http://www.mifflinguard.org

Other fife & drum corps which Andy has been a member include Capt. Joshua Barney's Flotilla Crew, Old Line Fife & Drum, The Regimental Fifes & Drums of Fort Delaware and The Phila. Grey Reserves.
